Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended warm wishes to the nation on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, highlighting the festival’s role in strengthening the enduring bond between brothers and sisters.

“Best wishes on the special occasion of Raksha Bandhan,” PM Modi wrote on X.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also greeted the country, describing Raksha Bandhan as a celebration of the “unbreakable bond of love, trust, and commitment to protection” between siblings. “I pray to God that this festival becomes a source of joy and enthusiasm in everyone’s life,” he posted.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in his message, stressed that the festival signifies more than just the tying of a rakhi. “It is a symbol of the commitment to honour, protect, and ensure the happiness and prosperity of our sisters,” he wrote, adding that it strengthens the spirit of protection in society.

Raksha Bandhan, observed this year on August 9, is a traditional Hindu festival where sisters tie a rakhi around their brothers’ wrists, and brothers, in turn, pledge to protect their sisters. Deeply rooted in Indian culture, the festival has been celebrated for centuries, with references found in Hindu scriptures. It stands as a timeless symbol of affection, trust, and mutual care between siblings.
